Food Safety Testing: Choosing an Aflatoxin Test Kit

Understand food-sample testing, total aflatoxins and ELISA, and prepare an enquiry about AflaQuant for your sample.

Looking for a food safety kit or a food sample testing kit? Start with the question you want the test to answer. An aflatoxin detection kit measures a specific group of contaminants; the result is one part of a food-testing assessment.

Which food testing kit do you need?

A search for a food contamination testing kit can cover several different needs. Identify the substance or hazard of interest, your sample type and the method your laboratory will use. A test selected for one substance does not establish that the sample is free of every other contaminant.

If your question is about aflatoxins in food or animal feed, a total aflatoxin test kit may be relevant. If you are unsure what to test for, describe the sample and your testing objective to the BIC Biotech team before choosing a kit.

What are aflatoxins and mycotoxins?

Mycotoxins are substances produced by certain moulds. Aflatoxins are one group of mycotoxins. The names B1, B2, G1 and G2 identify different aflatoxins; they are the four analytes listed for AflaQuant™ Total.

A mycotoxin detection kit should be selected for the toxin or toxins you need to measure. AflaQuant is a total aflatoxin ELISA kit; its scope should not be taken to include every mycotoxin.

Aflatoxin M1 is a separate analyte associated with milk. An enquiry about aflatoxin in dairy samples should state the required analyte explicitly. The AflaQuant product record lists B1, B2, G1 and G2; it does not establish M1 detection.

How does a total aflatoxin ELISA kit fit into food analysis?

AflaQuant™ Total uses competitive ELISA for the quantitative determination of total aflatoxins. Quantitative testing concerns how much of the measured analyte is present. ELISA is short for enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.

The kit uses a pre-coated 96-well strip plate and includes standards. Its product page lists the kit components and core specifications. The instruction manual provides the assay procedure; this guide is a selection aid, rather than a replacement for that procedure.

If you are looking for a food sample analyser kit, distinguish the assay kit from the laboratory equipment used to run and read it. Confirm the required equipment, sample preparation and calculation procedure against the applicable manual.

Match the aflatoxin test to your food or feed sample

The BIC product page lists food and feed sample types including cereals, corn, nuts, spices, edible oils, biscuits, cotton seeds and animal feeds. Corn is also commonly called maize. The sample material is often described as the matrix.

Tell the team which material you have, including whether it is a raw ingredient, processed product or mixture. The applicable extraction and preparation protocol, assay suitability and analytical information depend on that matrix. A listed sample name is not a claim that every formulation has the same assay performance.

For total aflatoxin testing in cereals, grain, nuts or feed, ask for the matrix-specific guidance before placing an order. For a sample not listed on the product page, request a suitability discussion instead of assuming coverage.

Questions to ask before selecting an aflatoxin detection kit

  • Analytes: Do you need total aflatoxins B1, B2, G1 and G2, or a different analyte?
  • Sample: What material will you test, and which preparation protocol applies?
  • Method: Is a laboratory competitive ELISA workflow appropriate for your testing plan?
  • Equipment: What instruments and additional materials are required by the manual?
  • Analytical information: Which matrix-specific performance information do you need to assess suitability?
  • Ordering: What kit quantity, documentation and delivery destination should be included in the quotation?

The AflaQuant product record specifies storage at 2–8°C. Discuss handling and storage requirements with the team using the product documentation.

Common food-sample testing questions

Can one kit tell me whether food is safe?

An aflatoxin result concerns the analytes measured by that assay. It does not establish the overall safety of a food sample or, by itself, demonstrate regulatory compliance.

Can I use AflaQuant to test my sample?

Check the listed applications, then contact BIC Biotech with your sample type and target analytes to confirm the applicable guidance.

Where can I get an aflatoxin ELISA kit quotation in India?

BIC Biotech is based in India. Use the AflaQuant product enquiry to share your organisation, sample material, quantity and delivery location. Ask the team to confirm price and availability for your requirement.
